The Studio

Colour is very much at the heart of Kate's fabrics and homewares. Bold colours and simple motifs contrast with flamboyant one-off designs, often influenced by her time in the Far East. Having grown up on an organic farm, surrounded by wildlife, Kate studied Fine Art and History of Art, before being drawn to a career working in business in London, Singapore and Hong Kong for much of her twenties and early 30s. However, Kate's return to rural England, heralded the start of a return to the creative arts and a fabric design commission which set her off on her new career, forming the Kate Medlicott studio in 2016. Kate is now based in the South West of England, where she lives with her husband and two small children.

Fabric

My latest collection, Journeyman, was entirely inspired by artifacts found at Glastonbury Abbey, where I have spent many a summer's day with my children. The collection comprises five designs, ranging from large trailing prints to intricate patterned stripes to the storybook Journeyman on horseback.

My first fabric collection, Asian Sojourn, was inspired by my time in the far east and is full of exotic colour and pattern. All of my fabrics are printed in England onto British-woven linen union.
